KUALA LUMPUR (June 28, 2012): MTD Construction Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of MTD ACPI Engineering Bhd, will begin work on the RM500 million MRT V7 viaduct work package for the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang line on Aug 7.

The V7 package, which is a bumiputra-exclusive work package, was awarded to MTD Construction in May.

The company will be constructing the MRT viaduct guideway and other associated works from Bandar Tun Hussein Onn to Taman Mesra, estimated to be completed in the second quarter of 2016.

MTD Group executive vice-president and head of construction and contracts division Md Shukor Mohamed said the viaduct stretches for 3.83km and will be the alignment for two MRT stations, the ones near Balakong and Taman Koperasi.

"The works will start after the Batu 11 Toll Plaza of the Grand Saga Highway near Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, and end after the SILK Highway at Sungai Balak interchange," he told a media briefing on the V7 viaduct work package yesterday.

Among its scope of works, Md Shukor said the relocation of utilities would cost around RM30 million to RM35 million.

In a statement, Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) director of strategic communications and public relations Amir Mahmood Razak said work on the MRT project is progressing well so far with RM13.8 billion worth of work packages already awarded.

"Following the commencement of work on V1, V4, V5 and V6, work on V7 will get underway soon, bringing us closer towards releasing the first MRT line for Klang Valley residents by June 2017," said Amir.

Of the eight viaduct work packages available, five have been awarded so far. The remaining packages, V2 (Kota Damansara-Dataran Sunway), V3 (Dataran Sunway-Section 16) and V8 (Taman Mesra-Kajang) are expected to be awarded by the third quarter.

MTD Construction is involved in the construction of mountain roads, highways, bridges, geotechnical works, erosion control and highway maintenance. It is also involved in the manufacturing of precast concrete products for infrastructure and buildings and Industrialised Building System.
