Kalid bin Alias joined the Public Works Department (PWD) in 1975 where he served for 29 years in various capacities including holding the position of Civil Engineer in the National Housing Department, Ministry of Housing (1976-1981), District Engineer, Petaling, Selangor (1983-1986) Assistant Director (Roads) PWD, Selangor (1986-1988), Deputy Director of PWD, Terengganu (1988-1991), Director of PWD, Negeri Sembilan (1991-1993), Deputy Director, Jabatan Pembangunan Persekutuan Kelantan (1993-1996) and Director, PWD, Pahang (1996-2004), which was his last posting before retiring in November 2004.
