Bumiputera construction company, MTD Construction Sdn Bhd expects to start work on the mass rapid transit (MRT) V7 viaduct package, worth RM499.98 million, from Bandar Tun Hussein Onn to Taman
Mesra in Cheras on August 7.

Executive vice president head, construction and contracts division Ir Md Shukor Mohamed said the viaduct work stretched approximately 3.83 kilometres and will be the alignment for two MRT stations near Balakong and Taman Koperasi in Cheras.

"This package is part of the exclusive Bumiputera package that makes up 43 per cent of the total value of the MRT project," he said at a media briefing in Kuala Lumpur today.

The V7 package, awarded to MTD by MRT Corp Sdn Bhd in May this year, is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2016.

To date, MRT Corp has awarded RM13.8 billion worth of work comprising the V1, V4, V5, V6 and V7 packages.

The awarding of the remaining packages namely V2 (Kota Dasmansara-Dataran Sunway), V3 (Dataran Sunway-Section 16) and V8 (Taman Mesra-Kajang) are expected to be done later this year.

On its overseas venture, Md Shukor said MTD was in the process developing a highway concession in Indonesia, which is expected to start construction in the second half of next year.

"Currently, we are waiting for the land acquisition by the (Indonesian) government to complete before construction work can start."

The company's highway concessions in Malaysia include the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway and the East Cost Highway.-- BERNAMA
